OIT Celebrates 2025’s First Batch of Graduates. A Milestone for Skills, Opportunity, and Community

The Oceania Institute of Technology (OIT) has proudly marked a major milestone in 2025 — celebrating its first-ever batch of graduates. This inaugural graduation is more than a ceremony; it represents new pathways into employment, entrepreneurship, and further education for individuals and families across the West.

A proud first cohort

At OIT’s first graduation ceremony in Nadi, 242 students completed training across a range of practical, workforce-focused areas including vocational literacy and numeracy, tourism and hospitality, arts, and business. The celebration was a meaningful moment for students and their families, and a strong signal that industry-ready training can be delivered quickly, accessibly, and with real community impact.

One standout highlight from this first intake is the participation of women. With women making up a large share of the graduating cohort, the programme reflects encouraging progress toward expanding opportunities for women to build skills, strengthen employability, and pursue financial independence.

Training designed to match real workplace needs

OIT’s approach is built around practicality and relevance — helping students learn skills that can be used immediately in the workplace. This first intake achieved a very high completion rate, supported by engaging delivery methods that move beyond “sit and listen” classroom styles and into more hands-on learning.

OIT’s leadership has also shared a strong focus on working closely with employers so that training outcomes align with what industry actually needs. The direction being promoted is clear: when learning is shaped with real employer input, graduates can transition into work more smoothly — with less retraining required.

Community-based pathways for youth and adults

A key strength of this first programme is its focus on access and inclusion. The graduation reflects how alternative tertiary pathways can support people who may not have received scholarships or may not have followed traditional academic routes.

Local community leadership also played an important role in encouraging participation and helping identify those who would benefit most from training opportunities — particularly unemployed youth, school leavers, and adults seeking to upskill.

A call for stronger partnerships across the Vanua and beyond

During the graduation, community voices emphasised the importance of Vanua leaders partnering with tertiary institutions to ensure communities receive training that matches real opportunities — not only in professional careers, but also in entrepreneurship and skills development.

With increasing global labour mobility, the need for locally accessible training becomes even more important — so communities can build the skills base required to meet Fiji’s workforce demands at every level.

Looking ahead: growth, new programmes, and an official opening in 2026

This first cohort is just the beginning. OIT has indicated plans to expand its offerings into certificate and diploma-level programmes in areas such as tourism, hospitality, ICT, engineering, business and commerce, and education (pending approvals/registration). The institute is also expected to continue strengthening partnerships with industry, linking training with work placements and real job outcomes.

For OIT, the graduation is both a celebration and a starting point — building momentum toward a stronger skills pipeline that supports Fiji’s future workforce, strengthens communities, and creates meaningful opportunities for learners of all backgrounds.

Congratulations to the Class of 2025

To every graduate in OIT’s first cohort — congratulations. Your hard work, commitment, and courage to step forward into training is inspiring. You’ve set the foundation for future intakes and shown what is possible when training is practical, accessible, and connected to the needs of the community and industry.
